{Gear Review} Peak Design Capture Clip & Clutch
Peak Design Capture Clip & Clutch
As an adventure and sports photographer, constantly putting my equipment under a lot of strain, I tend to push my gear to the limits just to capture that perfect image. Due to the type of elements my gear is constantly exposed to, I conduct a lot of research investigating camera accessories that actually work versus the ones that are simply more popular. As most photographers would say, your gear becomes very much one’s pride and joy and therefore I put a lot of effort into ensuing it all works flawlessly.
When I came across Peak Design, their array of products and reputation caught my attention immediately. I have been working with their Clutch & Capture Clip products for the last couple of months, and I have been blown away by their ease and style when working a gear-strenuous shoot.
Before you read further, there are two things you should know:
- I am an ambassador for Peak Design South Africa
- I have never, ever, ever used a camera strap until Peak Design exposed me to theirs.
So without further or do, welcome to my experience with the Peak Design Clutch & Capture Pro
The Clutch

The Looks:
Peak Design has not only made a great product that captures personality but also one that has the style – and if you’re honest with yourself, looks matter a great deal!
The Clutch; featuring a black and red finish is discreet, accessorised with a beautiful aluminium adjuster, giving it that business look when you’re out on an adventure. This rugged little strap makes you feel in control of any situation, and who doesn’t want that?
Personality:
You might have all the looks in the world, but not enough personality which will only bore me as we sip our trenta mocha latte double ugg boot frappucciono in some Hipster coffee shop. My point is; that everyone needs something that has versatility, great functionality and just simply makes sense.
Clutch – It took me while to get used to it, (See disclaimer #2) and took me awhile to work out if I actually liked it. However it sure didn’t take long! I shoot off Kayaks in the middle of the ocean and climb mountains along the border of countries, and the security the Clutch gives me is astounding. Like a teenager dating his first girlfriend, this strap sticks tightly to your hand which in this case, is a good thing! Unobtrusive and discreet are major bonus points for me as I hate dangly straps. This Clutch doesn’t get in the way of controls and allows one to keep control at a click of a … button.
Capture Clip –
Sitting on my Thule camera bag, on the left strap is a smallish black aluminium clip. The Capture Pro has the rugged beauty that Peak Design is known for. The professional looks definitely raises this clip above the rest and is one tough little cookie. After falling hard (me! not the clip) off a bicycle, the Capture Clip came off better than I did and sits proudly over my heart ever since.
Capture Clip – Personally the Clutch & Capture Clip go hand in hand (excuse the pun). They’re the perfect pair looking good working together. The Capture Clip will keep your camera in its place securely on your belt or camera strap. On a recent shoot, I never truly understood the convenience of having your camera so accessible. I hiked 35km of the Sky Run route, photographing as I went along. Not once did I have to stop and remove my camera out the bag. It was right there, ready to slide free out the clip and shoot. With accessibility and speed, getting you gear quickly becomes a priority when capturing fast moving cyclist on a single track. The Capture Clip is a non-negotiable piece of equipment. On the same assignment, another aspect of the Capture Clip that blew me away was being hands free. Climbing down ledges and needing both hands was no problem, or even paddling down rivers and needing your camera close by makes the Capture Clip & Clutch the perfect partner
.
Last Words:
Like you, I work hard to have the luxury of spending money on good quality photo gear. I would not trust my Canon lenses and bodies on straps that put them at risk. Not once have I been fearful about my camera’s dropping or coming loose when strapped in correctly. Peak Design’s strap & clip will allow you to shoot comfortably and give you the versatility that photographers who love the outdoors need.
