Our famliy just recently returned from a trip to Coffee Bay, which can be found along the glorious Wild coast of South Africa. A really special place with tons of history that is starting to flourish and really take charge of their tourism.
We were in Coffee Bay partly due to tourism. Ocean View Hotel have invited our adventure sports company, Won Adventure, to host our annual Merrell Transkei Tuff 150km Adventure Race. With it being School Holidays as well, Trystan and I brought our children along for the adventure.
Ocean View Hotel, which started as a boarding house in 1920, is right on a quiet stretch of beach on the outskirts of Coffee Bay. A stunning place to relax, or in our case; work and squeeze in time with our girls who are Sophia (7 years) & Kai (14 mnths). Both demanding Mommy & Daddy’s time… all the time! Our time here meant lots of driving, checking race options, meeting, driving and more meetings. All things boring for the off spring!
Early morning’s is how we (now) roll, as Kai is a big believer of Carpe Diem! Waking up before dark, making sure the kids are warm we set out for a short family hike. As the winter sun rose over Mapuzi Point, we are all in awe of the beauty that immediately surrounds us. These mini hikes are perfect opportunities to teach and show unique world to the young eyes that gaze in wonder. Trys and I travel A LOT and its during these family outings where we are able to expose Sophia & Kai to something they wouldn’t usually see and learn.
Evenings were also the perfect time to spend with our girls after a long day in the car or sitting around waiting for one meeting to end so we can go to another. Ocean View Hotel is RIGHT on the beach and a perfect way to let the family run wild without having to mission far before bath and bed time.
With MULTIPLE wee stops along the road, endless “are we there yet”, toddler crying for no exact reason and Sophia’s bottomless fixation on trying to hypnotize a chicken are just some of the things that make travelling as family not so easy. But we are fortunate to work with and along side others who value family as much as we do.
We don’t always get it right and more often than not its working late into the night or its just Trystan and I that do the trips, but traveling as a family and showing a whole new world to little brains makes it all worth it.
Please enjoy the photographs below from the rest of the trip.
