Its an East London thing. If you have lived in East London for more than 6 months, you will have heard of the Discovery Surfers Challenge, or just “Surfers” by us locals. Its an annual coming together. of young and old, fit and unfit that take on 17.5km from Kwelera Mouth to Nahoon Beach. Weeks before the event, you get asked, “Are you running the Surfers?” and after the event, “Did you run the Surfers”. Its an East London love that we are all proud of.
I was at the start line of the 2018 edition, but not with running shoes (*insert sad emoji), but with my trusty Canon. My job today was not run, but shoot and specifically shoot for the Surfers media partner, Algoa FM. The brief was simple and allowed me to show case some really cool details as well as the vibe.
Here are some of my personal favorites from this year’s “Surfers” 🙂
Its really cool coming across a couple who are affectionate and comfortable in each others arms. The first time I met them, I knew it would be really fun working with them and capturing their energy that is shared between them.
On a typical wintery afternoon, we took a stroll down the beach and found a cozy corner to photograph that exact energy. What a pleasure.
All the best with the rest of your engagement, Wes & Monique, enjoy this exiting time!
Many local couples usually shy away from shooting at the beach, so when Ruhan & Nicole mentioned they loved the ocean, it was a no brainer to meet and shoot at one of Gonubie’s quieter spots.
Ruhan & Nicole will be tying the knot next month at the beauty Cypress Dale, just outside East London.
Cheers,
Bruce
